Background

CREATEC was established at the beginning of 2004 and took over the role of a school based research centre CRITC – Centre for Research Information, Technology and Communication which promoted high quality research in information and communications technologies. CRITC changed its name to reflect its new role of fostering the research effort within the Faculty of Communications and Creative Industries, while maintaining a focus on media, culture, communications, entertainment and contemporary arts.

The centre attained Level II status at the beginning of 2006.

Objectives

The main objective is to increase research and creative output through nationally competitive research grants, partnerships and dissemination of research through quality publications programs that benefit the community and industry. Also, the Centre aims to transfer knowledge by promoting and organising seminars, conferences, publications and exhibition opportunities.

Key Focus Areas

Collaboration with Industry, Government and Community

CREATEC’s aim is to collaborate with community, government and industry to provide innovative research solutions and knowledge transfer that have beneficial impact and solve real-world problems.

CREATEC aims to raise the research profile of Edith Cowan University within the media, communications, technology and creative industries to local community, government and industry groups. The focus will be collaborative research through our themed research groups.

The centre is seeking collaborators who might wish to participate in a research or development project. Present us with a real-world problem and we will seek the solutions by finding the right mix of collaborators, funding, resources and expertise.

Promoting Research Culture and Student/Staff Mentoring

CREATEC will endeavour to promote research culture, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration between research groups, faculties, individuals and other universities. It will also aim to promote a research-mentoring program that will encourage Professors and Associate Professors to collaborate with early career researchers and also through regular seminar and workshops. To this end CREATEC runs fortnightly research seminars and encourage both academics and non-academics to present.

Collaboration with other Universities

CREATEC will encourage visiting scholars to engage in collaborative opportunities and to provide expert knowledge and assist in projects as needed.
