This free, one-day conference, showcased how local businesses are using electronic games to build corporate brands and educate and engage stakeholders. In 2006 alone, Australians spent $596.3m on gaming software and a diverse range of organisations are responding to this trend by creating games that aren’t just played for fun. ‘Serious games’ such as flight simulations used by trainee pilots, are being developed to educate, persuade, and train players in a diverse range of industries including health care, medical training, oil and gas, business education and civic planning. The event, organised by the Centre for Research in Entertainment, Arts, Technology, Education and Communications (CREATEC), looked at the development of gaming technologies to train employees, inform customers and promote best-practice. The conference also addressed the challenges associated with creating engaging games to meet the needs of businesses and educators as well as the end user. |
